Geomatics platform

Geomatics (or geoinformatics) is a field involving the management and processing of geographic information. It integrates science and technology from several disciplines, including remote sensing, photogrammetry, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS), surveying, cartography, hydrology and other geosciences. This includes the acquisition of remote sensing data, modelling, analysis, and management of spatially referenced data. Geomatics integrates across the board with a number of EVA research projects requiring space-related applications.

Thanks to the quality of the equipment available, the geomatics platform undertakes themed mapping work and studies of natural resources through spatial and statistical analyses, vector -raster data integration, digital image processing and environmental modelling.

The facilities and research activities are based on various lines, including image spectrometry, radiative transfer modelling to extract biophysical and biochemical parameters through earth observation data, development of semi-automatic classification techniques, assimilation of data into environmental models and statistical applications.
